Joewell Hairdressing Scissors
Joewell delivers products, which better match customer needs for more precise and consistent quality by using a uniform system from design consideration during new product development, to standardization and quality control in the manufacturing process.
1 - Joewell Scissors Sizing
The size of hairdressing scissors is usually indicated in inches. The short scissors are 4.5 inches and longer hairdressing scissors go up to 8 inches. The indication in inches is not the length of the blade but the length tip of the scissor to the edge of the finger ring.
Size is selected depending on the cut techniques, and popular sizes differ between countries and regions. The 5 inch scissor is overwhelmingly popular in the United States and Europe but 6 inch scissors are more popular in Asia and Japan.
Shorter scissors are more suitable for detailed work, and the longer scissors are more suitable for powerful work. Cutting accurately in a straight line is the basic of blunt cutting and therefore the 5 inch size is the mainstream.
The characteristics of long scissors enable efficient work because more of the hair can be cut at one time, and a higher flexibility can be achieved depending on the method of use.
2 - Joewell Material
Material for the blade is the most important element in making your scissor purchase. To achieve a better edge, Joewell uses the following original blade materials.
a. Supreme Stainless Alloys
Top quality special alloys born through the pursuit of ultra-fine composition. This material was developed from the long-term experience in manufacturing techniques and the accumulation of user comments and is suitable for hairdressing scissors. It has the best edge sharpness and durability.
b. Cobalt Base Alloys
Based on the scarce metal Cobalt, it includes chrome, tungsten and carbon. Cobalt base alloys do not require heat treatment as this material already has hardness which is suitable for blades. The other characteristic include chemical-resistance and rust-resistance. Joewell also uses CBA 1 which has a higher hardness and longer life, and is suitable for dry hair cutting.
Compared to cobalt base alloys, stainless has a greater hardness but cobalt has a higher wear resistance. Therefore, looking at all the elements, a cobalt based alloy has a longer life. Stainless requires heat treatment but cobalt does not. Cobalt also is not magnetic, so you can determine whether the scissor is a cobalt base alloy or stainless by placing a magnet over the blade. This is a simple test to see if your scissors are genuine Joewell products. Many other manufacturers’ claim to have cobalt steel scissors, when in fact they are usually stainless.
c. heat Treatment Techniques
Joewell scissors incorporate the very latest heat treatment techniques which is applied to the the materials except cobalt base alloys. A computer controlled, full automatic vacuum heat treatment method is adopted. It can maximise the quality of the material to achieve consistent heat treatment. Joewell manufactures its products at the highest level of hardness that is practically possible, and the hardness is 15% higher than the general hardness of competitor’s products. Joewell produces the best sharp edge and durability.
d. Material For The Handle
Joewell is also concerned about the handle material. Joewell use steel with extremely low volumes of nickel to ensure against nickel allergies. The countermeasure against nickel allergies is specially demanded in Europe, so all of Joewell products in Europe are Nickel Allergy Resistant. Also, because of the hard material used, the handle is difficult to be deformed, and its face is difficult to be scratched too.
3 – Design of The Handle
a. Symmetric Handle
The symmetry of the handle design is widely appreciated as the basic style for hairdressing salons worldwide. Symmetric design makes it possible to use the scissor both sides to enable a greater degree of freedom.
B. Offset Handle
Offset handles easily fit into the hand and the wrist, elbow and shoulder do not tire easily when cutting. Offset handled scissors are especially popular for blunt cutting.
C. Twist Handle
A natural opening and closing of the scissors are possible. Opening and closing of the scissors are smooth not only for ordinary use but also when putting fingers vertically into the finger hole.
4 – Blade Shape
a. Blade Setting
The convex blade is sharp for softer cutting while the bevel blade is superior for lightweight durability because the whole blade can be designed flat. Joewell scissors are available in four blade shapes, which are;
a. Convex Blade.
In pursuit of sharp, smooth cutting, this has to be the sharpest blade angle and setting. Final finishing is manually done by a trained craftsman. Because the cross section of the blade is large, it is powerful. Because the point of the blade is smaller than a human hair, hairs will not fly out and you achieve a cut to the very tip of the scissor.
b. Semi Convex Blade
The semi convex blade was developed by implementing the latest technology on top of the advantage of the convex blade. It maintains a soft, sharp cutting blade that is suitable for all hairdressers and barbers.
c. Standard Joewell Blade
This is the most popular, easy to use and world standard blade edge from Joewell. Because this is a flat blade and the blade body is light, a lifting style cut is possible. Other characteristics include a flat face that fits the hair and comb face, making it easier to work with.
d. Sword Blade
This type of scissor is in the shape of a sword giving it extreme power. The strength is delivered to the point of the blade with the design. Great for cutting coarse hair.
5 - Width Of Blade
Various blade widths are available, with a wider blade it is more powerful for cutting hair and the cutting action is extremely light. Thin blades are lightweight and fantastic for point cutting and detailed work.
6 – Blade Lines
Various blade lines re available from straight to curved. The straighter the blade, the easier it is to hold hair without having the hair slide. The bigger the curve, the greater the amount of hair that will slide when cutting, this gives a smooth soft cut. A bamboo style (very curved) is suitable for slide cutting and slicing.
6 – Screw System
Flat tension screws will not hinder cutting because it has no bulge. Adjustable tension screws can be quickly and easily adjusted to suit your preference.
a. Flat Tension Screw
This is an ultra-precise tension screw with little looseness. Because this style is flat, it does not hinder the comb when cutting and can be adjusted with a coin.
b. Adjustable Tension Screw
The small screw makes fine tuning possible and the locking and tension functions prevent loosening.
7 – Removable Finger Rest
This is a finger rest with a washer which does not easily come off, although the user can remove this if needed but we recommend keeping this in place so that your little finger does not ache.
8 – Rubber Handle
Titanium and a rubber coating are applied to the handle of certain models. The characteristics are soft to touch, which cannot be achieved with metal, also making the scissor non slip.
